Beloved is a novel written by Tony Morrison and is based on the American Civil War. The plot of the novel is based on the effects, consequences and the results of the Civil War. The author uses characters that would effectively bring out the Civil War theme in terms of social circles and occupations in the society. The novel is based on the characters regarded as slaves or have undergone capture, slavery and escaped from their masters (Haskins Haskins 13). The main character in the novel, Sethe is a former slave and she underwent cruel times under her master. Factors that Causes Obesity and its health Effects Obesity is a medical condition caused by the consumption of excess food, lack of exercise and in some cases due to genetic inheritance. The story myth that people suffering from obesity dont eat a lot yet they still gain weight because of reasons such as slow metabolism is proven to be wrong because obese requires much energy to support their body mass than any other healthy body (Barry, et al. 2009). Most victims are due to the inadequate food intake and eating junk food with excess calories this problem is majorly affecting the developed nations. The increasing rate of dependence on prepared food has also contributed to the poor food intake and also the high consumption of sweet drinks and beverages has mostly affected the young adult's age a lot. Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise are also another great cause of overweight and obesity condition. Many people now rely a lot on the technology regarding movement and even work that can help in burning the excess calories in the body system. Lack of body exercise or body activity affects the body hormones working rate thus leading to a reduced level of body insulin which causes overweight. Also, the lack of enough sleep can cause obesity by mainly increasing the body appetite or food intake thus increasing calories in the body system. Obesity can also occur due to the genetic inheritance this means the obese body has great food satisfaction rate that makes the person consume a lot so as to feel satisfied. It is estimated that obesity is one of the high causes of deaths in the world contributing in causing 7.7% deaths in Europe that is 1 million people die because of obesity when it can be prevented or be minimized. The overweight high cause of deaths is known to be the fifth leading cause of deaths, and regarding figures, its approximated to kill 2.8 million adults every year worldwide (Ogden and Flanagan, 2008). Obesity can lead to many health issues such heart conditions (heart failure, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels and coronary heart diseases), respiratory problems (asthma and obstructive sleep apnea). It can also lead to reproductive difficulties (complication during pregnancy and birth problems to the unborn, infertility and intrauterine fetal deaths), depression, diabetes type 2, cancer, stroke, gout, lower back pains and many chronic diseases. One of the most basic forms of representationalism, as noted page 4 of â€Å"Philosophy of Art: Chapter 1-Art and Representation† is that, â€Å"by representation, here is meant something that is intended to stand for something else and that is recognized by audiences as such. † Similar to the example that Carroll gives where a portrait can stand for whomever it is a portrait of, the Renaissance sculpture of David would be considered a representation of David himself. It is important to note, that this interpretation of representation is only a subset known as imitation. Carroll notes â€Å"representation is broader, since something can also stand for something else without looking like it. † An example of this could be based off the fact that historically, women of larger size denoted a sense of beauty because they were potentially seen as a better fit for childbearing and thus were potentially more sought-after. Therefore, a painting of a bigger woman could represent beauty for the artist, but especially if viewed within the context of modern day, not necessarily replicate our modern perception of beauty. This example, particularly biased by the changing of ideologies over time, would epitomize representation by a piece of art without imitation as it did not imitate what is generally considered modern beauty for its current audience. Such counterexamples, according to Carroll, encouraged us to â€Å"take a second look at art history and to ask whether imitation theory was ever accurate. † Additionally, â€Å"with this additional breadth, the representational theory of art remains unsalvageable, since much art is not representational. † Besides the example formerly stated with changing ideologies allowing for representation without imitation, modern architecture can be another example as certain buildings do not necessarily stand for something else, they just are what they are. Similar to the examples given on page 4 of â€Å"Art and Representation,† The Robeson Campus Center does not stand for the building of food, it is a building which feeds students.
